I’m a burden no one wants to deal with
In the instances when POC say shit like ‘Oh I can’t stand white folk’ or ‘Damn white people’, they aren’t saying ‘Oh I think they are inferior, I want to humiliate them, abuse them, enslave them and wipe out their people!’, they’re saying ‘Damn, after a couple hundred years of white people thinking I’m inferior, humiliating me, abusing me, enslaving me, and trying to wipe out my people, I don’t wanna deal with them.’ The context is completely different.

America: where people can’t afford cheap rent and to be healthy with one job.
In 2006, a visitor to the Kiev Zoo proclaimed, “God will save me if he exists,” and entered the lion enclosure, where a lioness instantly sliced his carotid artery.

If you are a white woman and you want to call yourself a feminist, you must acknowledge that your whiteness affords you a privilege that shields you from a lot. You must also acknowledge that you are afforded privileges that some men in this country do not have. Racism and sexism are tightly intertwined. You cannot fight one while ignoring the other.

Is gender something people need to get? Is it something that can be quantified and assigned values and easily described? Cis people struggle to grasp what it means to be trans—not just nonbinary, but trans in general—and I’m not sure they really need to. The question for me isn’t whether people ‘understand’ gender, but whether they can be respectful about it, whether they can interact with people who are trans without treating us as something abnormal and broken and wrong. I don’t need people to ‘get’ being genderqueer to treat me with respect, to not misgender me, after all.

Of course, it isn’t only women that advertising patronises and panders to because of gender. Marketing aimed at men is just as infantilising, portraying men as inept, incapable, cock-driven numbskulls who blunder helplessly from one moment of life to the next. Every product consumed is made into a tiresome test of masculinity: Can you eat this thing even though it’s massive? Can you lift this despite it being irritatingly cumbersome? How many blades does your razor have? Only four?! What a wuss, mine has seventeen.
